Below is a list of the biggest wins in World Cup history:
Hungary are the surprise name occupying the top two spots on the list. The biggest win ever recorded in a World Cup match came in 1982 when they hammered El Salvador 10-1. You have to go all the way back to 1954 to find the joint second-biggest win with the Hungarians running out 9-0 victors over Korea Republic. Yugoslavia are the other side to boast a 9-0 success, coming against Zaire in 1974.
In more recent times, there are two matches that feature in the top 10. Germany ran out 8-0 winners against Saudi Arabia in 2002 while Portugal’s 7-0 victory over Korea DPR in 2010 also feature. The 2022 FWC in Qatar also produced another scoreline to add to this list with Spain running out 7-0 winners in their first group game against Costa Rica.
