THE LOWDOWN
SPAIN
- Spain were ruthless as they ran riot against Costa Rica in their opening game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and that eye-catching performance has left many pundits salivating at their prospects in this tournament.
- Luis Enrique’s side were excellent as they notched seven times and having dominated that game, they will take some beating if they can replicate that performance but there may still be some tweaks to the starting XI here as they look to deal with the threats posed by Germany.
GERMANY
- Germany’s participation in the FWC could well be over at the conclusion of this game after they suffered a shock loss to Japan in their opening encounter, making it likely that they need a result from this game with Spain to remain in the tournament.
- The Germans blew a one-goal lead in that clash as they were punished for failing to kill the game off and with Leroy Sane remaining an injury doubt, the changes to the side for this contest may be limited.

THE PREDICTION
Spain produced arguably the standout display of the first round of group matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as they blitzed Costa Rica with a stunning performance. The Spaniards dictated proceedings from the off and they look like the team to beat based on that effort but they will not want to be complacent ahead of this big clash with Germany. A loss for the Germans will be a disaster here having already suffered defeat to Japan in their opening contest with their hopes of making the knockout stages hanging by a thread. They are good enough to respond here but Spain’s quality will worry them and Luis Enrique’s side are worth backing to claim another victory.
TIP: SPAIN TO WIN
