36 and out! Argentina fail in bid to equal Italy's world record unbeaten streak
One of the biggest shocks in FIFA World Cup history has not only damaged Argentina's hopes of World Cup glory in Qatar, but it has also deprived them of the chance to equal Italy's international unbeaten streak of 37 games. Lionel Messi and Co fell to a surprise 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia, seeing their unbeaten streak come at an end at 36 games.
The EURO 2020 winning-Italy side retain the outright record having avoided defeat for over three years between 2018 and 2021.
Argentina's run included both their Copa America and Finalissima wins, in a run that began all the way back in July 2019.
