THE TEAM NEWS

CAMEROON

  • Cameroon are competing in a qualifying group for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Cape Verde, Rwanda and Mozambique, but as they have already qualified as the host nation the results will only count in determining the qualification of the other teams from their group.
  • Their most recent fixture was a friendly against Tunisia last month that finished 0-0. It was their first match since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals where they lost in the round of 16 to Nigeria and was their third 0-0 draw in their last four matches.
  • Vincent Aboubakar and Mouscron midfielder Fabrice Olinga both return to the squad after they were dropped for the 2019 AFCON finals. Jean Pierre Nsame, who is the top scorer in the Swiss Super League is also in the squad after missing out on Cameroon's friendly against Tunisia last month. Three new faces in the squad are Antwerp striker Lamkel Ze, goalkeeper Haschou Kerrido and midfielder Franck-Yves Bambock

CAPE VERDE ISLANDS

  • Cape Verde begin their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a trip to Cameroon followed by a home game against Mozambique five days later. Rwanda are the other team in Group F.
  • They have not qualified for the finals since 2015 and will be looking for a huge improvement on their performance in the 2019 qualifying campaign which saw them win only one match in a group containing Uganda, Tanzania and Lesotho.
  • Their most recent fixture was last month when they enjoyed a 2-1 victory against Togo in a friendly match played in the South of France.

THE PREDICTION

Although Cameroon’s result in this match has no bearing on their qualification for the final tournament they will still be aiming to put in a strong performance as they look to build some positive momentum following an early exit at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals. With some struggles in scoring goals during recent matches they have looked to bolster their attacking options which may see a more offensive approach and they should have too much qualify for a Cape Verde team who finished bottom in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group.
