Both teams required extra time to get through to the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup at the start of the month, with Mechelen beating Cercle Brugge 2-1 and AS Eupen beating Zulte-Waregem 3-2. Since then neither side has enjoyed much success in the Belgian Pro League, with just one win each after Mechelen lost away at the aforementioned Zulte-Waregem on Saturday and AS Eupen were thrashed 0-4 at home by Sporting Charleroi. AS Eupen seem the less likely team to come through given they have lost each of their last four matches on the road and conceded 10 goals in their last three whilst Mechelen are unbeaten here in four matches.
