THE TEAM NEWS
ASTON VILLA
- Aston Villa come into this League Cup final having lost their last three league matches as they find themselves thick in a relegation scrap so confidence is not great for this Wembley trip.
- Dean Smith was furious with his team's performance at Southampton last weekend so changes to both tactics and personnel are highly likely with as many as five changes to the starting eleven.
- Smith may be tempted to add another central midfielder to the side to bolster the middle and employ a 3-5-2 formation rather than the 3-4-3 he has used in recent games so Hourihane and Drinkwater could come in.
Predicted line-up (3-5-2): Reina; Engels, Mings, Hause; Guilbert, Drinkwater, Hourihane, Douglas Luiz, Targett; Samatta, Grealish
Unavailable: Wesley (Injured), Heaton (Injured), Steer (Injured), McGinn (Injured), Davis (Injured)
Doubtful: El Ghazi (Injured)
MAN CITY
- Manchester City come into this League Cup final as strong favourites as they attempt to win the trophy for a third consecutive season and fourth title in the last five years.
- Pep Guardiola and his men will be highly motivated to pick up their first piece of silverware of the season with the league all but lost so their focus is entirely on cup competitions now.
- City's confidence will be flying after their victory in Madrid on Wednesday night with the only negative being the injury picked up by Laporte who will surely miss out here so Fernandinho will deputise, while Aguero and Sterling are both expected to start.
Predicted line-up (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Fernandinho, Otamendi, Mendy; De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan; Bernardo Silva, Aguero, Sterling
Unavailable: Sane (Injured), Laporte (Injured)
Doubtful:
THE PREDICTION
Aston Villa will be highly motivated for their first League Cup final in a decade but they face a tough task ahead. Their form is poor and they come up against a motivated City team who should have far too much quality for them on the day. City could well kill this game off in the first half.
