Flavio Cobolli vs Holger Rune prediction

Fresh from his Barcelona triumph, Holger Rune returns to Madrid bidding to reach the third round for the third year in a row.

The Dane is enjoying a strong 2025 so far with only illness curtailing his ambitions at Monte Carlo after a run to the final in Miami. Now, the 21-year-old world number nine faces an Italian just a year older and ranked just inside the top 40. 

Cobolli won the title in Bucharest and is a dangerous player on the dirt which should make for an eye-catching spectacle full of variety. 

Rune needed five sets to edge out the Italian in their only previous encounter at Roland-Garros last year and it could be another hard-fought one, but the Scandinavian is in better form in recent months and he’s the favourite to progress.
