Flavio Cobolli has struggled for so much of the season but seems to have found some form during the beginning of this European clay court period. His brilliant run in Bucharest saw the Italian pick up his first ATP Tour title, beating top seed Sebastian Baez in the final.

In Monte-Carlo, he swept aside Dusan Lajovic but ran into an inspiring Arthur Fils, who limited Cobolli to just two break points during the entirety of the match, with the Frenchman going on to win 6-2 6-4. Nevertheless, Cobolli does seem revitalised after such a difficult start to the season and must be confident of another run at an event.

He takes on lucky loser Alexander Shevchenko in round one, with the Kazakhstani player failing to make a breakthrough at any of his first three clay events of the season, including two Challenger events.

Cobolli defeated Shevchenko in straight sets in Geneva on clay last season, in the only match they’ve played against each other. We are confident the Italian will win in a similar fashion to book his place into the second-round.
