Fiorentina Preview: I Viola’s story
Raffaele Palladino took charge of a Fiorentina side last summer that had been the runners’ up in each of the last two seasons of the UEFA Europa Conference League and I Viola pushed towards the semi-finals of that competition with a 2-1 win in Slovenia against Celje.
The home team could well be dealt a similar fate once again this season in Europe and, in Serie A, they look as though they may be the team that once again finished seventh and, once again, qualified for Europe’s third-tier club competition.
Parma Preview: Change of style
For the vast majority of this season, Parma tried to play a progressive and attacking style of football under the management of Fabio Pecchia but with results not improving, he was eventually sacked and replaced by former Romania international Cristian Chivu.
Chivu has imposed a more defensive and pragmatic style of football that has Parma kicking away from the bottom three and the relegation places. The visitors shared their fourth successive draw with a 2-2 draw against defending champions Inter last weekend.
Fiorentina Team News: Couple of doubts
Robin Gosens and Andrea Colpani are both doubts for Fiorentina this weekend due to a knee injury and a foot injury respectively. They do remain without Edoardo Bove following his cardiac arrest against Inter in December.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): David de Gea; Pongracic, Pablo Mari, Ranieri; Dodo, Mandragora, Cataldi, Fagioli, Parisi; Kean, Gudmundsson
Unavailable: Bove (Illness)
Questionable: Gosens (Injured), Colpani (Injured)
Parma Team News: Almqvist suspended
Parma striker Pontus Almqvist is missing through suspension for this weekend’s trip to Florence. They also have a few other key attacking absentees such as Romania international Valentin Mihaila as well as the likes of Matteo Cancellieri and Gaetan Charpentier.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): Suzuki; Del Prato, Vogliacco, Valenti; Marco Pellegrino, Hernani, Keita, Sohm, Valeri; Man, Bonny
Unavailable: Circati (Injured), Mihaila (Injured), Charpentier (Injured), Kowalski (Injured), Almqvist (Suspended)
Questionable: Yordan Osorio (Injured), Benedyczak (Injured), Cancellieri (Injured)
Fiorentina vs Parma Prediction
Fiorentina were extremely impressive through the autumn but have been a little inconsistent in the last few months. However, I Viola do begin this weekend’s round of fixtures in the top seven of Serie A after just one defeat in their last eight matches across all competitions. They now face a Parma side that have been steadier under the management of Chivu but perhaps lack a fluency and potency in the final third that could cost them here.
Fiorentina vs Parma Tip: Fiorentina to win & under 3.5 goals
