Fantasy Premier League may only be two weeks in, but already it’s getting harder and harder to lock all the high-performing assets into your respective teams, with potential captain picks all performing excellently. Whether it’s Erling Haaland (€15.1m), Mo Salah (£12.6m), or any other high-value star, FPL bosses are spoiled for choice when it comes to potential captains right now.

Gameweek 3 represents the final round of Premier League action before the first international break of the new campaign. Therefore, a strong finish to this first tranche of fixtures is utterly essential for fantasy managers, so picking the right skipper remains crucial. We’ve picked out three of the most attractive premium captaincy options for Gameweek 3 of the 2024-25 FPL season, along with an alternate differential ahead of Saturday’s 11:00am deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Cole Palmer (£10.5m) vs CRY (H)

The biggest bargain of the 2023-24 FPL season, Cole Palmer’s rise in base price was inevitable when considering his numbers, 22 goals, 13 assists and 244 fantasy points to be precise. But the Chelsea star put everyone on notice in Gameweek 2 with four attacking returns against Wolves. Three assists and a goal in a 6-2 saw him rack up 17 points.

Such figures simply cannot be ignored moving forward, especially when considering his already high ownership percentage of close to 40%. Indeed, that percentage may well have been exceeded by the Gameweek 3 deadline. With that in mind, captaining Palmer vs a struggling Crystal Palace looks more enticing by the day.

Mo Salah (£12.6m) vs MUN (a)

Nobody loves playing Man Utd like Mo Salah, his goal record against the Red Devils in recent seasons is sublime. The Egyptian has found the net ten times across his last seven Premier League appearances vs Liverpool’s biggest rivals. That’s not including the FA Cup, where Salah boasts another three goals against Man Utd since 2020.

Salah has started this season extremely well, scoring in both Gameweek 1 and Gameweek 2. He currently has 24 FPL points to his name, the joint-most in all positions with only Erling Haaland level with him. The fixture looks difficult on paper, but don’t be fooled. The numbers tell FPL bosses everything they need to know when it comes to Salah facing Man Utd and choosing him as your captain may well pay off big time.

Erling Haaland (£15.1m) vs WHU (a)

Plenty of fantasy managers are likely still celebrating Erling Haaland’s hat-trick and 17-point-haul against Ipswich in Gameweek 2, particularly the 477,386 who used their triple captain on the Man City forward. Although West Ham away represents a tougher fixture on paper than a newly promoted side at home, Haaland’s vast ownership and incredible numbers makes him still a highly enticing choice to captain.

Those with long memories will remember Haaland’s Premier League debut for Man City in 2022, when he scored twice at the London Stadium. He was also on the scoresheet when the champions visited East London last season and boasts four goals in three appearances against the Hammers. It would take a brave fantasy manager not to place the armband on Haaland.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Bryan Mbeumo (£7.0m) vs SOU (H)

With Ivan Toney seemingly set to exit Brentford before the transfer window closes, this establishes midfielder Bryan Mbeumo as a key FPL asset from an attacking point of view. For starters, Mbeumo will now be on penalties if last season was anything to go by, whilst he could also play as part of a front two alongside Yoane Wissa.

The Bees host Southampton in Gameweek 3 with the Saints still yet to pick up a point in the 2024-25 Premier League. Brentford won their first home game of the campaign, beating Crystal Palace 2-1 with Mbeumo among the goals. Those searching for a lesser-owned asset with plenty of offensive upside to captain, should look towards Mbeumo.
