Classified as a midfielder but occupying one of the three front spots in Joachim Low’s side, Serge Gnabry (€9.5m) has been in absolutely sensational form when it comes to his country. With 15 goals and six assists in 20 appearances for Germany, the Bayern Munich man averages better than a goal involvement per match. He was in sensational form as Germany cruised to EURO 2020 qualification from Group C, scoring eight goals in his seven appearances, while only failing to record a goal involvement once and has continued this in the latest World Cup qualifiers, scoring once and assisting twice in three matches.
When it comes to Denmark’s Christian Eriksen (€9.0m) it can be argued that there are few nations that rely so heavily on a single player to inspire them to victory. Five goals and three assists mean Eriksen was involved in 34.7% of Denmark’s goals during their successful qualification campaign. He also created, on average, 4.75 chances per match during that campaign, the most any player from any nation. At €9.0m, Eriksen is slightly cheaper than Gnabry and with an opening match against Finland, the lowest ranked nation in their group, has the much easier fixture on paper.
Verdict: Christian Eriksen
