Two of the premier forwards in UEFA EURO 2020 fantasy, both Harry Kane (€11.5m) and Robert Lewandowski (€11.5m) will set managers back €11.5m to acquire their services. Both are also coming into the EUROs fresh off the back of excellent individual seasons. In the English Premier League Kane was recently awarded both the Golden Boot and Playmaker Award, which are given to the top scorer and top assister in the league respectively. He is just one of the three players in history to receive both awards in the same season. Lewandowski was also one to enter the history books this campaign. The Polish striker scored 41 goals in this season’s German Bundesliga to break Gerd Muller’s 49-year-old record for most goals scored in a single season in the division.
Top scorer during the qualifying campaign, Kane and England’s first match is against Croatia. The two sides last have played each other three times in recent history having met in the FIFA World Cup semi-final, as well as twice in the UEFA Nations League. Despite starting all three of those matches, Kane has scored just the once. He is however a man for the big occasion and was the 2018 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner (with six goals). Poland’s all-time top goal scorer Lewandowski has struggled to find the net in tournament finals. Of his 66 goals scored only two have come in either the UEFA European Championship or FIFA World Cup, despite 11 appearances. He’ll look to correct this record in Poland’s first match against Slovakia but when picking choosing between the two it has to be the player who has the proven record of scoring at this level.
Verdict: Harry Kane
