Enjoying both a late season renaissance for both his country and his club side, the 8%-owned Ferran Torres (€8.0m) is an interesting option ahead of matchday 1. Five goals in his last four international appearances – including a stunning hat-trick against Germany in the UEFA Nations League last November – the Spanish winger has forced himself into Luis Enrique’s starting line-up having not been involved in any of the qualifiers. The Manchester City man has started each of Spain's last five competitive fixtures and that recent hat-trick for his club has only served to enhance his Fantasy appeal ahead of an opening match against Sweden.
Costing €2.5m more than Torres, is premium Portuguese option Bruno Fernandes (€10.5m). Having only been involved in the three goals during Portugal’s qualifying campaign, much of the interested in Fernandes stems from his performances for Manchester United. Since his move to United in January 2020 Fernandes has been directly involved in 65 goals (40 goals and 25 assists) in just 79 matches for the club. That equates to a goal involvement every 1.32 games. If he can translate his devastating attacking form to UEFA EURO 2020 then he will be a valuable, and under-priced, Fantasy asset. Up first for Portugal is Hungary, a team that kept just two clean sheets throughout the qualifying campaign. It is for this reason that the gamble on Fernandes is worth it for matchday 1.
Verdict: Bruno Fernandes
