Fabian Marozsan vs Flavio Cobolli prediction

Fabian Marozsan may be the underdog in terms of ranking but his recent semi-final charge in Munich will give him plenty of confidence ahead of his Madrid opener with Flávio Cobolli. 

Only top seed and eventual champion Alexander Zverev stopped the 25-year-old Hungarian’s run in Germany, which came on the back of a main draw appearance in Monte Carlo after coming through qualifying. 

Cobolli,22, hasn’t quite caught fire after lifting the title on the dirt in Bucharest recently, but given the nature of his break-out 2024, he will be expecting an upsurge in form on the dirt and did make the third round in the Spanish capital last year. 

The Italian world number 36 sits 41 places above his opponent, but Marozsan did win in their only previous meeting, which was also on clay in San Marino three years ago. 

It’s a tough call and could well go the distance with the winner earning the reward of a second-round clash with Barcelona champion and eighth seed Holger Rune.
