Everton Preview: Sticky Toffees
David Moyes’ Everton continued their impressive improvement under the Scotsman in his second stint in charge with a 1-0 defeat of UEFA Champions League chasers Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last weekend, courtesy of a late Abdoulaye Doucoure strike.
Moyes later said that he would like to see the Toffees do something akin to what Forest have done this season and challenge for the top four or five next year. They have suffered just two defeats in the 13 Premier League matches since the return of Moyes.
Man City Preview: Signs of City
Many will suggest there were signs of Manchester City returning to their best form last weekend but that will probably be the 15th time that has been widely said. They came from 2-0 down to defeat Crystal Palace by five goals to two at the Etihad Stadium.
They were genuinely excellent in terms of their attacking prowess and the departing Kevin De Bruyne showed signs of what he has been for a very long time. However, once again, defensively, even at 2-0 down, they looked susceptible to nearly every counter-attack.
Everton Team News: Nothing fresh
David Moyes has said that he 'doesn't know' as to whether Dwight McNeil is ready to start this weekend but has said that the former Burnley winger will definitely be involved. He said that the absence of Seamus Coleman from last weekend's squad was 'tactical' and that there are no fitness issues with the Ireland international.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gueye, Garner’ Harrison, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Broja
Unavailable: Mangala (Injured), Lindstrom (Injured), Calvert-Lewin (Injured)
Questionable:
Man City Team News: A few issues
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that goalkeeper Ederson will not make the trip to Goodison Park due to injury and also couldn't say whether or not he would be fit enough to face Aston Villa in midweek. Both Manuel Akanji and Phil Foden could return after coming back to training this week.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ortega; Lewis, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Kovacic, Gonzalez; McAtee, Gundogan, Marmoush; De Bruyne
Unavailable: Ederson (Injured), Ake (Injured), Stones (Injured), Rodri (Fitness), Haaland (Injured)
Questionable: Akanji (Fitness), Foden (Fitness)
Everton vs Man City Prediction
Everton have proven themselves difficult to beat and when David Moyes initially came in, they showed signs of improvement in attack, too. They have, though, now failed to score more than a solitary goal in a game in their last six matches. They now face a Manchester City side that have laboured to some tedious results this season and Everton will seek to frustrate them but the visitors may not have their weaknesses as exposed as they can be by other sides.
Everton vs Man City Tip: Man City to win & under 3.5 goals
