Espanyol Preview: Catalan improvement
Under the management of former B team coach Manolo Gonzalez, who replaced Qatar-bound Luis Garcia last summer, Espanyol predictably struggled for much of this campaign but the Catalans have been much-improved in the last couple of months.
That improvement continued last weekend as they defeated European chasing Celta Vigo by two goals to nil at Balaidos in Galicia. Roberto Fernandez notched a match-winning brace in that game thanks to goals in the 28th and 63rd minutes.
Getafe Preview: Castilian improvement
Getafe have also been once again punching above their weight, often both literally and figuratively, with Jose Bordalas at the helm and their limited, shallow squad being able to be adaptable enough to aggressively move themselves into the middle-of-the-table.
They do, though, come into this one on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat at home to a Las Palmas side that had been winless throughout this calendar year. They went ahead in that game but went down to ten men before half-time before a second-half turnaround.
Espanyol Team News: Javi Puado suspended
Ahead of the visit of Getafe this weekend, Espanyol are now dealing with the suspension of key striker Javi Puado for this one. They also have some key injury doubts such as Pablo Ramon, Brian Olivan and Jose Gragera.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Joan Garcia; El Hilali, Kumbulla, Leandro Cabrera, Carlos Romero; Urko Gonzalez, Pol Lozano; Alex Roca, Edu Exposito, Jofre Carreras; Roberto Fernandez
Unavailable: Javi Puado (Suspended)
Questionable: Pablo Ramon (Injured), Brian Olivan (Injured), Jose Gragera (Injured)
Getafe Team News: Diego Rico suspended
As mentioned, Getafe went down to ten men against Las Palmas last weekend due to a red card for Diego Rico in the 33rd minute. The former AFC Bournemouth left-back is now sidelined through suspension for the visitors.
Predicted XI (4-4-2): David Soria; Jorge Iglesias, Domingos Duarte, Omar Alderete, Nyom; Ramon Terrats, Luis Milla, Mauro Arambarri, Juan Bernat; Uche, Juanmi
Unavailable: Diego Rico (Suspended)

Espanyol vs Getafe Prediction
Espanyol have been much-improved, as mentioned, in the last couple of months. Their aforementioned victory against Celta last weekend means they have now suffered just two defeats in their last 12 matches in La Liga in 2025. They face a Getafe side that have been strong themselves of late but their best performances have come on the road so that sets this one up quite well and, with two defensive sides, there could be good value to be had in going for both teams to score at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona.
