ERIN BLANCHFIELD: 25-YEAR-OLD LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK FROM FIOROT SETBACK
Erin Blanchfield (12-2) is ranked number three in the women’s flyweight division but she is coming off a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Manon Fiorot. She had won nine fights in a row prior to that loss and she knows she cannot afford to lose here otherwise she risks losing ground in the race for a title shot.
ROSE NAMAJUNAS: FORMER STRAWWEIGHT CHAMP SEEKS THREE IN A ROW
Former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas (13-6) is coming off back-to-back wins against Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez and the veteran will be aiming to make it three in a row here. After she lost her strawweight belt to Carla Esparza, she moved to flyweight and then lost to Manon Fiorot via unanimous decision – just like Blanchfield albeit over just three rounds. She has rebounded well though and has won two five-round decisions unanimously to stay in the mix.
ERIN BLANCHFIELD VS ROSE NAMAJUNAS PREDICTION
This is something of an eliminator in the women’s flyweight division as the winner firmly stays in contention for a title shot at some stage soon but the loser will really lose ground.
Both of these players have lost to a mutual opponent in recent times as they lost to Manon Fiorot on the scorecards unanimously. Fiorot was clearly the dominant over both fighters so it is hard to take much from those fights.
Blanchfield is our marginal preference as we just think that with youth on her side, that could make the difference. We think this will go the distance and that is our preferred play with Blanchfield the pick if pushed.
PREDICTION: ERIN BLANCHFIELD VIA DECISION
