Empoli Preview: Pressure on D’Aversa
Empoli come into this one on the back of being hammered by three goals to nil by Bologna in the first-leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final in midweek. Riccardo Orsolini opened the scoring in that game before a brace of goals in either half from Thijs Dallinga.
Empoli begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the bottom three and the relegation places. They have managed just four victories in their 30 games despite what was quite an impressive start to the campaign.
Cagliari Preview: Steady Sardinians
Former Crotone and Salernitana ‘miracle worker’ Davide Nicola was actually under pressure early on in the season but the Sardinians, in comparison to Empoli, have steadily improved, albeit they do probably remain just about in the relegation battle.
The visitors returned to winning ways after the March international break last weekend as they dispatched of Monza by three goals to nil at the Sardegna Arena courtesy of second-half syrikes from Nicolas Viola, Gianluca Gaetano and Zito Luvumbo.
Empoli Team News: Couple of suspensions
Empoli are dealing with several absentees for the visit of Cagliari this weekend and they are dealing with a couple of suspensions, too, as midfielder Jacopo Fazzini will be sidelined alongside forward Emmanuel Gyasi.

Empoli vs Cagliari Prediction
Empoli, as mentioned, began the season reasonably well but they have completely collapsed in the last few months and are now seemingly destined to return to Serie B next season. They face a Cagliari side that were underwhelming before the international break but remain a tough test for most sides in Serie A and they will fancy their chances of opening up a nine-point gap between themselves and the danger zone.
Empoli vs Cagliari Tip: Double chance – Cagliari to win or draw
