Emma Navarro made it third time lucky on the dirt against a disappointing Beatriz Haddad Maia to surge into the round of 16.

The American shrugged off losing both clay court encounters with the Brazilian last year to power her way to a 6-3 6-0 in just one hour and 16 minutes. 

It pits the seventh seed against the enigmatic Jelena Ostapenko who was in total control before her opponent - and doubles partner - Dayana Yastremska retired through illness at 6-3 3-0 down. 

It sets up an intriguing maiden showdown between the two with the solid, efficient American up against the creative and sometimes erratic heavy-hitting of Ostapenko. 

The outcome will no doubt be on the streaky racket of Ostapenko and it may well be Navarro’s consistency that pays dividends if former French Open champion, Ostapenko doesn’t just have one of her inspired matches.
