The American has drifted just outside the world’s top ten in recent weeks and she will be eager to embark upon a solid run on what is statistically her weakest surface.

The 23-year-old American followed up disappointing results in Indian Wells and Miami with a push to the last eight in Charleston but is well aware of the threat Haddad Maia can pose on the dirt. 

The Brazilian has lost eight matches in a row and that suggests the world number 17 is there for the taking. However, a closer look makes for intriguing reading as the South American leads the head-to-head 2-1 with both of those wins coming on clay in Strasbourg and Madrid last year.
