Elina Svitolina vs Maria Sakkari prediction

Elina Svitolina extended her winning run to nine matches as she defeated 10th seed Elena Rybakina 6-3 6-4. The Ukrainian benefited from a poor and error-strewn performance from her opponent, but it was still a strong display as her brilliant run of form continued.

She will now taken on Maria Sakkari, who continued her timely return to form with her best showing of the year to beat sixth seed Jasmine Paolini 6-2 6-1 in just 79 minutes. Sakkari had not won two matches in a row since the Paris Olympics but now has three victories on the trot and will be aiming for a second ever quarter-final in Madrid.

The head-to-head is 2-2 between the pair but this is their first encounter on clay, and they haven’t faced each other since the summer of 2021, which saw Svitolina come from a set down to defeat the Greek in the third-round of the Tokyo Olympics.

Despite Sakkari’s upturn in form, Svitolina is undefeated on clay so far this term and we back her to keep the unbeaten run going.
