Elena Rybakina strolled to a 6-3 6-2 win over Bianca Andreescu in her second-round match. The 10th seed didn’t lose her serve and won a commanding 81% of points on her first serve. This was a good win for the Kazakhstani , who seems to have improved her performance levels over the past month or so.
She takes on Elina Svitolina in the next round as the Ukrainian continued her winning run with a comfortable win over Sonay Kartal. She only gave up her serve once as she easily defeated the Brit 6-3 6-1. Svitolina is undefeated on clay so far this season and has already picked up a title in Rouen. She has not dropped a set in any of those six matches and must be confident of her chances against Rybakina.
Rybakina leads the head-to-head 3-2 but it’s 1-1 on clay. Svitolina won their first encounter on the surface five years ago in Strasbourg while Rybakina defeated the Ukrainian in the fourth-round of last year’s French Open.
Svitolina is in strong form, but this will be a different level of opponent to who she has faced so far. We’re leaning towards her winning in three sets.
