The Democratic Republic of Congo reached the semi-finals of the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2024 and they are generally improving as they now take on a South Sudan side that remain winless in their opening four matches of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.

DR Congo, with Sebastian Desabre at the helm, are without injured captain Chancel Mbemba but still have a squad that boasts the likes of Arthur Masuaku, Jeremy Ngakia, Rocky Bushiri, Meschak Elia, Theo Bongonga, Edo Kayembe, Grady Diangana, Ngal’ayel Mukau, Cedric Bakambu and Yoane Wissa as they chase FIFA World Cup qualification for the first time since entering the 1974 FIFA World Cup as Zaire.

They face a South Sudan side that performed reasonably well in qualifying for the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations in the autumn with some reasonable performances but they still finished rock-bottom in Group K behind South Africa, Uganda and Congo. 

The Democratic Republic of Congo are improving generally and are dreaming of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification. They are firm favourites for this one at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa.
