David Onama: The Silent Assassin continues to entertain
David Onama (12-2) has made a fair impact since joining the UFC and his six fights have all been highly entertaining. The lightweight has won his last two fights and he is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Jonathan Pearce in April. That was his first win via the scorecards as his previous 11 wins had all come by stoppage. He will be looking for the knockout right from the start against Romero.
Roberto Romero: Mexican 24-year-old answers late call as replacement fighter
Roberto Romero (8-3-1) has jumped at the chance to fight at UFC 309 with just a few days’ notice as he has stepped in to fight David Onama. Despite the tough assignment, the 24-year-old Mexican will be keen to impress after losing just one of his last nine bouts. This represents a serious step in quality from the regional circuits in Mexico and this really will be a baptism of fire on such a major card.
David Onama vs Roberto Romero Prediction
This fight was a hastily arranged one with just a couple of days to go as Roberto Romero has answered the call to make his UFC debut. The Mexican is offered a golden opportunity but an incredibly tough one against the talented Onama.
Onama is 4-2 in the UFC and is a real entertainer. He will not be fazed by his lack of preparation time for Romero and he will keep faith with his aggressive approach. That will surely lead to a stoppage as it would be remarkable for Romero to get to the final bell, nevermind pull off a shock win.
Prediction: David Onama to win by KO/TKO
