David Goffin vs Alexandre Muller prediction

Former French Open quarter-finalist David Goffin will bid to reach the second round in Madrid for just the second time in his last five appearances. 

The 34-year-old failed to make it through qualifying in Monte Carlo but did reach the last eight in Munich last week. 

The Belgian faces a tricky customer in Alexandre Muller who has made his mark on clay in several tournaments this year. 

The Frenchman was a finalist in Rio and reached the quarter-finals in Marrakesh, with no shame in his last two defeats in Monte Carlo and Munich, which came against big-hitters Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev respectively. 

Traditionally this is by far Goffin’s weakest 1000 event on clay with the conditions favouring pace and power. Muller has that in abundance and that should tip it the way of the 28-year-old, currently playing at a peak ranking of 39 in the world.
