The quarter-finals saw Michael Smith produce one of his better performances in recent times, averaging over 102 and finishing six of his eight doubles in a 6-2 win over bottom-of-the-table Gary Anderson, but he absolutely must back that up here with another victory as he needs every point he can get right now. Doing so against in-form Jonny Clayton is a tall order though, with the table-topper looking in good form again tonight in his quarter-final win over Peter Wright. The Ferret was victorious in Aberdeen last week and could well go all the way again here, and although Smith has the game to beat him, he hasn’t produced it often enough recently, so Clayton gets the nod.
