THE PREDICTION

Darius Labanauskas returns to the Alexandra Palace stage for the fifth year in succession with Lithuania’s finest hoping he can rediscover the magic that took him to the quarter-finals in 2020. It’s been something of an inconsistent year for the 46-year-old with no real headway being made in the big tournaments but he has plenty of big-stage experience behind him and will fancy his chances against Ally Pally debutant John O’Shea. The Irish thrower – a former World Masters campion on the old BDO circuit – is relatively untested in the PDC, but is clearly capable of playing to a high level. This could very well go all the way, with over 4.5 sets looking tempting in the betting markets.
