THE PREDICTION

After having to withdraw from last year’s PDC World Darts Championship with COVID-19, Martijn Kleermaker made up for lost time by winning his debut match against John Michael on Sunday and now faces an established veteran in the second round. Judging by Simon Whitlock’s recent form though, you’d have to say that an upset could be on the cards. The Wizard has been eliminated at the first-round stage in the last five tournaments he has entered, which is hardly ideal preparation for this contest. He is capable of a much higher standard than he has been showing but there has not been enough evidence of that recently so a punt on Kleermaker could be worth considering here.
