Ricky Evans swept aside Nitin Kumar in his first-round match on Wednesday evening for the loss of just two legs in what was an impressive display by the Englishman and he now faces world number 22 Daryl Gurney. It has certainly not been the Northern Irishman’s best year on tour as he has failed to go beyond the quarter-finals in any event but he remains a danger to any opponent and he’ll have fond memories of Alexandra Palace having reached the last eight last year. Evans will take plenty of confidence from his first-round display and an upset isn’t beyond the realms of possibility here, but Gurney is tipped to nick it.
