Ryan Searle reached his first televised quarter-final courtesy of a 3-1 win over Luke Humphries with some excellent doubling – both at the start and at the end of legs – the key difference between the two players. He will feel he has nothing to lose here as he faces a resurgent Stephen Bunting, who ousted James Wade in his own second-round match. That is the second successive former World Grand Prix champion that Bunting has eliminated this week and he will feel this is his to lose, but he should be wary of the danger that Searle poses. This could easily go to a deciding set between two players who have claimed Pro Tour wins over the summer but the edge just goes to Bunting in what should be an enthralling quarter-final.
