THE PLAYERS
HARRY WARD
- Harry Ward is making his PDC World Championship debut at Alexandra Palace having qualified via his ranking on the PDC ProTour Order of Merit.
- Ward won his PDC Tour Card at the start of 2019 and has had a breakthrough season on the tour with a ranking tournament win in May when he defeated Max Hopp in a last leg decider in the final.
- His previous experience in major PDC ranking tournaments have been at the UK Open (three times) and more recently he made his Players Championship Finals debut last month – though he hasn’t made it further than the last 64 in any of those.
MADARS RAZMA
- Latvia’s Madars Razma has not appeared at the PDC World Championship previously though he did qualify for the Lakeside on three occasions during his time in the BDO, without any significant success.
- His last appearance in the BDO World Championship was in 2016 when he defeated Gary Robson before losing to current PDC player Jamie Hughes in round two.
- Razma has not enjoyed any significant runs in any of the regular ranking tournaments on the main tour this year, though he has tasted success on the PDC European Tour Nordic and Baltic circuit and finished top of that particular Order of Merit.
THE PREDICTION
Harry Ward is a player with potential and he backed that up by winning a ranking tournament on the main PDC tour this season, although he is inexperienced on the big stage, he is not likely to fear his debut at the World Championship. Razma is certainly no easy draw for Ward and should play his part in a competitive encounter but Ward is predicted to reach round two with a win in five sets.
