Daniil Medvedev vs Taylor Fritz Prediction
Daniil Medvedev, winner of his tournament in 2020 and runner-up in 2021, comes into this tournament with average expectations as he has not quite hit the heights in 2024. He has failed to win a title this year on the ATP Tour losing finals at the Australian Open and Indian Wells but that comes off a 2023 which saw him reach nine finals and win five of them.
He meets Taylor Fritz in this opening group-stage match and he has beaten him in their only previous meeting. That came back in 2022 in Cincinnati but it is hard to imagine that will have too much of an impact in this one two years later.
Fritz has arguably had the better year and he has managed to win two ATP Tour titles this year. He won in Eastbourne and Delray Beach, while he lost the Bavarian Open final as well as the US Open to Jannik Sinner.
Medvedev also lost to Sinner in the US Open and in fairness, neither player has done a great deal since that tournament.
Much will depend on who has the greater motivation coming into this year-end event as is so often the case in this one. We favour Fritz slightly and expect him to have the clearer mindset coming into this one while we could quite easily see Medvedev not being overly bothered with this one. There is very little to choose and this is one best analysed in-play, but we would marginally edge Fritz pre-match.
