  • San Marino have lost all but two of their previous 76 World Cup qualifying matches (D 0-0 vs Türkiye 1993 and D 1-1 vs Latvia 2001).
  • San Marino are aiming to win successive competitive matches for the first time, having recorded a 3-1 away victory against Liechtenstein in the UEFA Nations League in November 2024.

Cyprus vs San Marino Prediction

As mentioned, Cyprus have suffered majorly in terms of a decline in the standard of their personnel and their overall results. San Marino are one of many sides to have majorly improved as a result of the UEFA Nations League, taking seven points in League D in the autumn.

The Cypriots come into this one on the back of being hammered by Romania by four goals to one in League C of the UEFA Nations League as they finished third in Group 2 of League C. They have fallen to as low as 130th in the world, 98 places lower than their highest ever ranking place achieved in September 2010.

San Marino most recently defeated Liechtenstein by three goals to one away from home during the November international break thanks to goals from Lorenzo Lazzari, Nicola Nanni and Alessandro Golinucco. They are now on their longest ever unbeaten run of form of two matches, backing up a goalless draw against Gibraltar with that victory against Liechtenstein.

San Marino will be more confident of posing a threat to a middling European side than they have been before but Cyprus remain the overwhelming favourites for this clash in Nicosia.
