NORTHERN SUPERCHARGERS
Northern Superchargers have been the breakout side of this year’s Men’s Hundred having struggled in the two seasons prior to that and this top of the table clash could go a long way to telling us whether the Superchargers have the legs to go all the way. At one stage, it looked like Trent Rockets would pull off a successful run chase against Wayne Parnell’s side on Wednesday when Daniel Sams began to tee off down the order. However, the visitors held their nerve at Trent Bridge, Parnell bowling brilliantly before Reece Topley closed the game out, seeing the Superchargers home by three runs.
OVAL INVINCIBLES
Oval Invincibles are riding the crest of a wave and travel to Headingley with the belief that they can beat any side, most recently destroying Manchester Originals by 94 runs at the Kia Oval. Sam Billings’ side racked up 186/5 with the top three all firing, Jason Roy scoring 59, Will Jacks 32 and Heinrich Klaasen 60. The bowlers then ran right through the Originals, dismissing them for 92 with the star of the show being Spencer Johnson. The Australian overseas player was unplayable with his left-arm pace, conceding just one run from his 20 balls, taking three wickets in the process.
THE PREDICTION
The emergence of Johnson has added another string to Oval Invincibles’ bow and if any team look like toppling Northern Superchargers, it’s probably them. It’s hard to see the Superchargers’ top order being able to dominate the visiting bowling unit with all bases firmly covered by Oval Invincibles and when also factoring in their batting firepower right down the order, it looks a shrewd move to back Billings’ men to get past the hosts and extend their lead at the top of the Men’s Hundred table.
