THE TEAM NEWS
MANCHESTER ORIGINALS MEN
- Manchester Originals picked up their first win of the competition last time out at Emirates Old Trafford, after bowling Birmingham Phoenix out for just 87 before chasing their target down in just 73 balls.
- On a spin-friendly pitch, Lancashire’s Matt Parkinson shone on his home ground taking four wickets for the loss of only nine runs, whilst Calvin Harrison picked up two wickets himself.
- Captain and wicketkeeper batter Jos Buttler has departed for England duty and won’t feature here with fellow opener Phil Salt expected to take the gloves in his place, meanwhile the Originals wait for news on whether fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is fit enough to feature.
NORTHERN SUPERCHARGERS MEN
- Northern Superchargers threw away victory in dramatic fashion last time out away to Trent Rockets, losing by two wickets after opener Alex Hales and tail-ender Neil Carter added 31 runs for the ninth wicket to see their side home at the expense of Ben Stokes’ side.
- Stokes’ regulation drop of Hales earlier in the run chase proved crucial and caps off what has been a disappointing two games for the England all-rounder, who now leaves the Superchargers camp for international duty, leaving him unavailable for the rest of the Hundred.
- South African batter, Faf du Plessis remains absence due to concussion symptoms and Lancashire’s Dane Vilas could well come into the starting line-up here with the Superchargers needing to replenish their batting after losing Stokes.
THE PREDICTION
Should the Emirates Old Trafford pitch be similar as to what we saw this past Sunday, then this could well turn out to be a battle of spin between the two sides Manchester Originals’ Matt Parkinson and Tom Hartley will go up against Adil Rashid, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Callum Parkinson. The hosts will be aware of the frailties of the Superchargers’ death bowling and it would be a surprise if that isn’t targeted here. Combine that with the Originals’ superior momentum and confidence levels compared to their opponents and a home win looks on the cards. However, predicted poor weather casts a gloomy shadow over this match and both teams may well be forced to settle for a point a piece should the anticipated rain arrive during the scheduled hours of play.
