TEXAS SUPER KINGS
With a number of players from the recent crowned IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, their sister side Texas Super Kings are well-stocked and tipped by many to win the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket at the first attempt. Games being played on their home ground of Grand Prairie should suit them with crowds expected to throw their support behind Texas. Faf du Plessis is a former CSK player who recently captained Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 and he’ll do the same job here for TSK. He’s likely to bat at the top of the order with Devon Conway in what should prove a formidable opening partnership. The middle order will be full of experience, occupied by the likes of David Miller, Mitchell Santner and CSK legend Dwayne Bravo which will be critical come the business end of games. The latter will also provide huge nous with the ball, although all-rounder Daniel Sams will miss this game as he completes his commitments for Essex in the T20 Blast.
LOS ANGELES KNIGHT RIDERS
The Knight Riders franchise were one of the very first to branch out away from the IPL and with teams in the Caribbean Premier League and the ILT20, they are now set to take their bow in Major League Cricket under the guise of LA Knight Riders. They are led by Knight Riders veteran Sunil Narine, the spinner having flown over to play in this opening match before flying back to England to compete in T20 Blast Finals Day for Surrey. Big-hitting all-rounder Andre Russell is another long-serving Knight Riders servant set to feature here, whilst world class top order batting comes in the form of Jason Roy and Rilee Rossouw, although Roy won’t play this first game. Texas Super Kings in contrast, can call upon arguably the strongest opening partnership in the competition in Du Plessis and Conway which is vital in the context of this encounter especially.
