THE TEAM NEWS

MONTREAL TIGERS

  • The Tigers kicked off their Global T20 campaign on Friday with a victory in a reduced-overs match as they smashed 135/3 from their 12 overs and the Winnipeg Hawks ultimately fell 24 runs short.
  • Sunil Narine and Anton Devcich got them off to a fine start as they hit 59 from 30 balls and 40 from 23 respectively to lay the foundations for their 11.25 run rate which put the game beyond the Hawks.
  • Their bowling unit comprising of Mohammad Naveed, Sunil Narine, Sean Abbott and Fawad Ahmed showed why they are arguably the best attack in the tournament as they held the Hawks at bay, and that opening win will give them major confidence coming into this match.

BRAMPTON WOLVES

  • The newly-formed Brampton Wolves play their first ever match in the Global T20 and after replacing the West Indies B team that participated last year, they have retained a core West Indian influence and have renowned coach Phil Simmons leading them.
  • Andre Fletcher, Darren Sammy and Lendl Simmons will feature for the Wolves while they will be skippered by Pakistani legend Shahid Afridi who will be motivated to do well after representing the Edmonton Royals last year.
  • In addition to those, they will be able to count upon Wahab Riaz who is coming off a solid World Cup effort, and Blackcap opening batsmen Colin Munro whose form has been poor in 2019 so far and desperately needs to get back to his best.

THE PREDICTION

Brampton Wolves play their first ever Global T20 match but they have plenty of players that played in the last year’s tournament so they should settle quickly. They face a tough opening game however as the Montreal Tigers impressed on Friday night and they have one of the best rosters in the tournament. The Wolves have good quality themselves but they will rely heavily on Wahab Riaz in their bowling attack and their strategy will largely be on outscoring opponents with their big-hitting West Indians. That will not be easy against arguably the best bowling attack in the tournament and the Tigers are favoured to make it back-to-back wins.
