- Surrey were stunned in their opening T20 Blast match on Friday night as they were smashed for 226/4 in a rain-affected 15-over match and they ultimately fell 52 runs short in the high-scoring encounter at Chelmsford.
- Their bowling left a lot to be desired with Tom Curran being smashed for a staggering 63 from his three overs but their bowling attack will be much more suited to the Oval and they will hope the likes of the Curran brothers and Imran Tahir can have a much greater impact here.
- There were some positive signs including the quickfire 40 from 19 balls by overseas star Aaron Finch and they will hope for more fireworks from him if they are to compete and match this strong Middlesex batting line-up.
MIDDLESEX

- Middlesex got their T20 Blast campaign off to a winning start last week as they chased down Essex Eagles’ 164/6 with relative ease as legend AB de Villiers produced a match-winning performance, hitting an unbeaten 88 form 43 balls to guide them to victory with three overs to spare.
- Irish duo Paul Stirling and Tim Murtagh both miss out here as they are with Ireland for their first-ever Test match against England, while Eoin Morgan continues to be rested following his World Cup exploits.
- Skipper Dawid Malan continued his good form in the opening match against Essex with his 43 runs and with Stirling and Morgan both absent, that adds even more responsibility to veterans Malan and De Villiers to lead the rest of their young batting line-up by example.
THE PREDICTION
Contrasting starts for both of these teams as Surrey were shocked thanks to some sensational hitting by Essex’s Cameron Delport while AB de Villiers shone for Middlesex in his first ever T20 Blast match. This will be a different match however as Surrey will be desperate to bounce back and they have so many experienced international players that will be keen to show what they can do. Middlesex have Malan and De Villiers who looked in excellent form in their opening match, but they do appear to over-rely on the duo with the bat. If they produce the goods, then they can beat anybody on their day, but expect Surrey to respond to their opening loss with a win at home here.
