THE TEAM NEWS

GLOUCESTERSHIRE

  • Gloucestershire’s AJ Tye hit two runs off the final ball to secure a tie for his side in a thrilling contest against Glamorgan to remain within touching distance of those teams above them as the South Group becomes very congested.
  • One point now separates the teams from second to fifth thanks to Tye’s efforts as he hit a brilliant 38 off just 18 balls to help his side post the 172 required level the scores and claim the valuable point for Gloucestershire.
  • With such a short turnaround, Gloucestershire may opt to rotate their side but with the table looking extremely competitive, they may not be able to afford to make too many changes if they are to pick up the win.

ESSEX EAGLES

  • Essex were on the end of a heavy loss against Hampshire in their last game to leave the Eagles with just a solitary victory to their name from their five matches so far in this year’s T20 Blast.
  • The Eagles collapsed from 81/1 to 133 all out in in just 16.4 overs which left their bowlers with a mammoth task and they were unable to match Hampshire who won by seven wickets with 26 balls to spare.
  • After a poor performance with both bat and ball, changes could be afoot for Essex who will need to back-up quickly with a second game in 24 hours and the pressure will be on opener Cameron Delport to produce more scores like his hundred against Surrey after he was bowled out for a golden duck against Hampshire, his third single-figure score from four games.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these teams will play for the second time in 24 hours and the match may be decided by who can handle the short turnaround the better. It could make home advantage crucial and with Essex already struggling for success in this year’s tournament, the signs look good for Gloucestershire who can come out on top of this and put themselves in a superb position in the South Group.
