THE TEAM NEWS
MONTREAL TIGERS
- Montreal Tigers failed to make the knockout phase in the 2018 edition of the T20 Global and they will be desperate to finish in a top four place this time around and they will want to make a good start to the tournament.
- They are led this time by George Bailey who replaces Lasith Malinga and the veteran Aussie will be a key figure for their batting line-up along with Dinesh Chandimal while big hitting all-rounders like Sunil Narine and Thisara Perera will be vital to the team although their participation will be limited by international call-ups.
- The bowling unit looks particularly strong with Sean Abbott, Fawad Ahmed and Keemo Paul forming a strong trio that will be capable of damaging any opposing batting line-up but so much will depend on availability of players especially early in the tournament.
WINNIPEG HAWKS
- Winnipeg Hawks fellow narrowly short of making the final in last year and after having retained several of their key men for the 2019 campaign, they will hope to go even further this time around.
- They will be able to count upon T20 specialists like Chris Lynn and Dwayne Bravo while veterans like JP Duminy and Dwayne Smith will also add some quality to the ranks with Duminy and Bravo offering good options with the ball as well as bat.
- It may well be some of their lesser known players who have established themselves as talented T20 players that may be key and really add depth like Umar Akmal, Rayad Emrit and Najibullah Zadran who could make the difference for them however.
THE PREDICTION
Both of these teams have some really impressive overseas stars in their ranks but much will depend on the availability of them for this game. The Hawks are expected to have their key men and they do have greater depth within their ranks too. The Tigers on the other hand have question marks over Narine and Thisara Perera is definitely out with Sri Lanka, so they could be notably weakened, and that just gives the edge to the Winnipeg outfit.
