THE TEAM NEWS
AUCKLAND ACES
- Auckland Aces were unable to make it back-to-back successes in the Super Smash as they succumbed to defeat against Canterbury Kings last time out with their batting effort falling short of where it needed to be.
- The Aces bowled the Kings for 154 but only one of their top four in the order managed to make it into double figures and despite a good knock of 56 from skipper Robert O’Donnell, the Auckland side ultimately fell 18 runs short.
WELLINGTON FIREBIRDS
- Wellington Firebirds’ winning run was ended at three games as they were unable to recover from a poor effort with the bat and subsequently falling to six-wicket defeat to Northern Districts last time out.
- The Firebirds were skittled for just 104 and while the put up a solid fight on a tricky pitch to score on, Colin de Grandhomme’s unbeaten effort of 41 proved to be a match-winning perofmrance as he helped to condemn the Wellington outfit to defeat.
THE PREDICTION
These two teams come into this game with an identical record in the
Super Smash with four wins and four losses apiece. That obviously means
there is very little to split the two and it should set up an
enthralling contest here with Auckland Aces and Wellington Firebirds
both desperate for the win in their efforts to consolidate third place
on the ladder. The Aces prevailed last time the teams met but they have
produced some underwhelming performances of late and the Firebirds can
make it four victories in their last five matches by making an immediate
return to winning ways in this clash.
