THE TEAM NEWS

AUCKLAND ACES

  • Auckland Aces sit fifth-place in the Super Smash table and desperately require victory here in their quest to get through to the next stage of the competition having won three and lost three of their six matches.
  • Opening batter Martin Guptill is expected to miss out again here through injury, but Glenn Phillips impressed at the top of the order against Canterbury Kings and should be afforded another chance here as an opener.

OTAGO VOLTS

  • Otago Volts remain rooted to the bottom of the Super Smash table with just one win from eight games and on the back of five consecutive defeats going into this next encounter.
  • It would be no surprise if the Volts look to make changes from the side who were beaten by Auckland in their most recent match, with the likes of bowler Travis Muller and batter Dale Phillips potential candidates to come into the team.

THE PREDICTION

Auckland Aces have to make the most of their games in hand if they are to move up the Super Smash table and Otago Volts provide the ideal opposition for them to go get back to winning ways. Even without Guptill, the Aces contain plenty of firepower with the bat and are against a team at rock bottom from a confidence perspective with their most important batter in Hamish Rutherford out of form. When taking this into account, any result here other than a comfortable Auckland Aces win would be a significant surprise.
