WARRINGTON WOLVES FORM: BURGESS’ BOYS IN GOOD SHAPE FOR PLAY-OFFS

The Wire would have loved to have finished in the top two but that was not meant to be but Sam Burgess wants his players to maintain their momentum and intensity levels regardless. They come into this clash with Saints knowing they have won all three meetings against them this season and that the table shows have much superior they have been. They have ended the season in strong form and now will look to push on in the post-season.

ST. HELENS FORM: MIXED RESULTS COMING INTO PLAY-OFFS FOR WELLENS’ MEN

The season ended much as it started with some mixed results for Paul Wellens’ men and inconsistency has haunted them all year. They have had the excuse of injuries impacting them throughout but they have most of their key men available now for the play-offs. They put in a good shift last week against Leigh but lost 18-12 and that does not bode well when playing one of the best teams in Super League here.

WARRINGTON WOLVES TEAM NEWS: VAUGHAN RETURNS FROM BAN TO STRENGTHEN WIRE

Warrington Wolves coach Sam Burgess welcomes back two key players as Paul Vaughan is back from a suspension and centre Rodrick Tai returns after an ankle problem. Joe Philbin is in the squad but he has a calf problem and he remains a doubt. Youngsters Cai Taylor-Wray and Max Wood are the two players to make way from the 21-man squad.

21-MAN SQUAD: Matty Ashton, John Bateman, Jordy Crowther, Ben Currie, Josh Drinkwater, Matt Dufty, James Harrison, Toby King, Aaron Lindop, Zane Musgrove, Matty Nicholson, Joe Philbin, Sam Powell, Stefan Ratchford, Rodrick Tai, Josh Thewlis, Paul Vaughan, Danny Walker, Tom Whitehead, George Williams, Luke Yates

ST. HELENS TEAM NEWS: WALMSLEY MAKES IT BUT MBYE & SIRONEN MISS OUT

Saints have been handed a blow by the news that Moses Mbye has picked up a knock and will be out of action for a couple of weeks while Curtis Sironen has not recovered in time to feature. Alex Walmsley is however fit despite a bout of illness and he will push through that to play this crunch match.

21-MAN SQUAD: 1. Jack Welsby, 2. Tommy Makinson, 3. Waqa Blake, 4. Mark Percival, 5. Jon Bennison, 6. Jonny Lomax, 7. Lewis Dodd, 8. Alex Walmsley, 9. Daryl Clark, 10. Matty Lees, 11. Sione Mata’utia, 12. Joe Bactchelor, 13. Morgan Knowles, 15. James Bell, 17. Agnatius Paasi, 19. Matt Whitley, 20. George Delaney, 21. Ben Davies, 24. Jake Burns, 30. Jonny Vaughan, 31. Noah Stephens

WARRINGTON WOLVES VS ST. HELENS PREDICTION

Warrington welcome Saints to the Halliwell on Saturday for an Eliminator and it is the type of match usually reserved for the Grand Final or at least the semi-finals. Saints’ difficult season saw them finish in sixth and there are signs that this is the end of an era for them in many respects. They have struggled against Warrington losing all three of their matches against them this season and that does not bode well for this eliminator.

Sam Burgess has instilled real belief in his men and they will come into this match with absolute confidence they can get the job done for a fourth time this season. In the three matches which they have beaten Saints by this season, they have conceded a total of 20 points as their defence has dominated. It is hard to look beyond the Wire and expect them to have just enough to pull away late in the game.

WARRINGTON WOLVES VS ST. HELENS TIP: WARRINGTON WOLVES TO WIN -7.5
