HULL KR FORM: WILL THE BYE HELP OR HINDER KR FOR THIS SEMI?
Hull KR earned themselves a bye after finishing in second place in the regular season and it will be interesting to see whether that benefits them or not in this match. On one hand they will surely benefit from some rest but whether that results in a dip in momentum, remains to be seen. When they had a free week when the Challenge Cup final took place, they lost at home to the Catalan Dragons on their return to action and they really will need to hit the ground running right from the start against the Wire in this one.
LAST FIVE: WWLWW
WARRINGTON WOLVES FORM: BURGESS’ MEN NEED TO RECOVER FROM SAINTS BATTLE QUICKLY
After a slow start in last week’s eliminator against St Helen’s, Warrington responded impressively scoring a vital try just before half-time and then produced an outstanding second half display. They still needed a golden point to win in over-time but that win will give them real belief that they can go all the way this year. They will have to ensure they start faster however and at the same time, hope their key players have been able to recover sufficiently to give their all once again.
LAST FIVE: LWWWW
HULL KR TEAM NEWS: EVALDS RETURNS BUT MINICHELLA STILL SUSPENDED
Hull KR are handed a boost as Niall Evalds will be available following concussion and he should return to the side for this crunch match. They can also count on Kelepi Tanginoa who returns from injury. They are however once again without Elliot Minchella who is serving the second game of a two-match ban.
21-MAN SQUAD: Peta Hiku, Niall Evalds, Tom Opacic, Oliver Gildart, Ryan Hall, Mikey Lewis, Sauaso Sue, Jez Litten, George King, Dean Hadley, James Batchelor, Matt Parcell, Sam Luckley, Jai Whitbread, Matty Storton, Kelepi Tanginoa, Tyrone May, Joe Burgess, Jack Broadbent, Jack Brown, Danny Richardson
WARRINGTON WOLVES TEAM NEWS: THE WIRE HOPE TO GO UNCHANGED
Warrington Wolves got some key men back for last week’s match and the like of Paul Vaughan, Roderick Tai and Joe Philbin were all important cogs for them. They will hope there is no adverse reaction to Tai and Philbin’s previous injuries and they may be able to make an even greater contribution to this match.
21-MAN SQUAD: Matty Ashton, John Bateman, Jordy Crowther, Ben Currie, Josh Drinkwater, Matt Dufty, James Harrison, Toby King, Arron Lindop, Zane Musgrove, Matty Nicholson, Joe Philbin, Sam Powell, Stefan Ratchford, Rodrick Tai, Josh Thewlis, Paul Vaughan, Danny Walker, Tom Whitehead, George Williams, Luke Yates
HULL KR VS WARRINGTON WOLVES PREDICTION
There Is little to choose between these two teams coming into this semi-final clash and the bookmakers’ odds clearly reflect that. After losing four times on the bounce to Warrington, Hull KR beat them at the start of August at the Halliwell and that win will serve to give them a real shot of belief that they can win again here.
Warrington’s win last week against the Saints will give them real belief however. They had to overcome adversity to fightback in that match and some of their play in the second half especially was outstanding.
Hull KR have Mikey Lewis who has arguably been the best player in the Super League this season. However, the Wire arguably have more matchwinners in their team and we think that will just make the difference in a match like this. We marginally prefer Sam Burgess’ men to get the win in a close-fought match and progress to Old Trafford.
HULL KR VS WARRINGTON WOLVES TIP: WARRINGTON WOLVES TO WIN
