THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa lost the opening T20 but they will have been pleased with several elements of their play and particularly their batting as they managed to compile 188/6 from their 20 overs and then take it all the way to the penultimate ball.
  • They will be hoping that Rassie van der Dussen has recovered in time to come back into the side while Kyle Verreyne is also a candidate to come back in with Wihan Lubbe’s place under threat although it would be somewhat harsh to lose his place after one failure.
  • With their batting depth looking light and their bowlers struggles in the first game, there is a chance that they bring all-rounder Wiaan Mulder for George Linde to change things around for this game.

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan made a great start to this four-game T20 series as they battled back in a competitive game by chasing down the hosts’ strong total of 188 with a solitary ball and four wickets to spare.
  • While South Africa played better than many expect, Pakistan will be confident they can improve on their first performance but the likelihood is that they name an unchanged team for this second game.
  • They may consider moving Fakhar Zaman up to open alongside the in-form Mohammad Rizwan with Babar Azam dropping down to three, while their bowlers will be hoping to do much better after proving expensive in the opening game.

THE PREDICTION

Despite South Africa being shorn of so many of their stars due to injury and IPL participation, they competed incredibly well in the first game and surprised many despite the loss. They looked better than expected with the bat although it was clearly a good track which was evident when Pakistan were chasing. They will have to retain that level however and that could be difficult whereas there is still some improvement to come from the tourists. Other than Tabraiz Shamsi and Beuran Hendricks, the hosts’ bowling looks light and there is still plenty to come from this Pakistani batting and bowling units. A second consecutive win is on the cards for Babar Azam’s men.
