THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa produced an underwhelming effort with the bat as they succumbed to defeat in the opening match of the series with India and their proud record of having never lost a Test series against the Indians on home soil is now under threat.
  • The Proteas failed to surpass the 200-run mark in each of their two innings in the opening clash and to make matters worse, they now have to deal with the shock retirement of one of their key batsmen, Quinton de Kock.

INDIA

  • India made a strong start to the three-match series by claiming a relatively comfortable success in the opening matchup but there is room for improvement in this send clash, especially with the bat.
  • KL Rahul’s 123 was the highlight for the Indians but he was not offered a great deal of support and the tourists were thankful to their superb bowling unit, namely Mohammed Shami who contributed eight wickets in total.

THE PREDICTION

South Africa have it all to do if they are to remain in this Test series with India after a poor showing in their first clash last week. An eight-wicket haul from Lungi Ngidi, who was ably supported by Kagiso Rabada, proved to be in vain and while the Proteas did a good job with the ball, it is with the bat where improvements are needed. They were twice bowled out for under 200 runs in the opening contest and with India’s bowlers dominating in the opening game, the tourists should have enough to seal what would be their first ever series win on South African soil.
