THE TEAM NEWS

LAHORE QALANDARS

  • Lahore Qalandars failed to build on a strong start to their opening match of the Pakistan Super League against Multan Sultans as their opponents turned the game on its head when they introduced spin into their attack and it was all one-way traffic from that point on.
  • Chris Lynn and Fakhar Zaman were going along nicely as they moved to 59/0 in the sixth over but Lynn’s dismissal was soon followed by Zaman’s and that instigated a struggle for the rest of the innings as the Qalandars stuttered to 138/8.
  • Shaheen Afridi did his best with the ball but his figures of 1-18 from his four overs could not help his side avoid defeat as the Sultans comfortably reached their target with 23 balls remaining and big improvements are needed in this game.

ISLAMABAD UNITED

  • Islamabad United bounced back from the defeat they suffered in their first game of PSL 5 against Quetta Gladiators as they overcame Multan Sultans thanks to their impressive performance with the bat.
  • Amad Butt stood out with the ball as he ended with figures of 4-27 and his efforts helped reduce the Sultans to 164/8 with Islamabad making light work of that total as they surpassed their target with 20 balls to spare.
  • That was largely down to an opening partnership of 92 between Luke Ronchi and Colin Munro with the former ending with a superb 74 from just 45 balls as his man of the match performance helped Islamabad pick up their first victory of the campaign and they will look to build on that effort in this contest.

THE PREDICTION

Lahore Qalandars struggled against spin as they failed to build on a positive start against Multan Sultans and fell to defeat in their opening match of PSL 5. They have work to do ahead of this game with Islamabad United who proved their class in their own game with the Sultans. Islamabad bat deep and although they do not pose the same spin threat that posed the Qalandars so many problems in their opening game, Lahore’s bowling unit are likely to fall short against Islamabad’s powerful line-up at the top of the order.
