THE LOWDOWN
PESHAWAR ZALMI
- Peshawar Zalmi come into this first eliminator in excellent form, having won each of their last four games including most recently beating Lahore Qalandars courtesy of a Super Over in the final match of the league stage.
- England limited overs star Liam Livingstone will not feature again for Peshawar this year after suffering a finger injury, opening the door for Haider Ali to once again slot in at number four between the experienced duo of Kamran Akmal an Shoaib Malik.
ISLAMABAD UNITED
- Whilst Islamabad United have done enough to qualify for the knockout stage, they are currently in bad shape when taking into account the injuries to a number of their key players.
- Captain Shadab Khan has missed Islamabad’s last three games and they will be hoping he can recover in time for this match, whilst bowler Hasan Ali also faces a race against time to be fit, however overseas batter Colin Munro has been ruled out of the remainder of the PSL, with Will Jacks brought in as a replacement.
THE PREDICTION
Ever since the Lahore leg of this season’s PSL commenced, Peshawar Zalmi have proven a far stronger force, winning four of their five games played at the Gaddafi Stadium with conditions evidently suiting them far better. The momentum is clearly in their favour ahead of this clash with Islamabad United in contrast having lost each of their last three matches and with such a short turnaround between fixtures, that momentum can make all the difference. Whilst Islamabad could be boosted hugely by the return of star players such as Shadab and Hasan Ali, the smart play here is to back the more settled side who have found a real winning formula of late, that team being Peshawar Zalmi.
