THE LOWDOWN
LAHORE QALANDARS
- Lahore Qalandars were victims of the Jason Roy show in the final match of the Pakistan Super League’s Karachi leg, the England international opener sentencing the Qalandars to defeat after his magnificent 116 helped Quetta Gladiators successfully chase down a target of 205.
- Despite the loss, Lahore remains well-placed in the table, but will need to improve from a bowling perspective if they are to gain anything from this match, with Multan Sultans boasting a particularly strong top order.
MULTAN SULTANS
- League leaders Multan Sultans go into their match in the Lahore leg of this season’s Pakistan Super League still unbeaten, having won each of their six matches played so far and most recently completing the double over Peshawar Zalmi, beating them convincingly by 42 runs.
- Tim David’s astonishing hitting has been one of the main highlights in this year’s competition so far and his 51 from just 19 balls in the Sultans' first match against Peshawar served another message as to how dangerous a hitter he is, further enhancing Multan’s formidable batting line-up.
THE PREDICTION
The last time these two sides collided, Lahore Qalandars racked up a big score of 206/5, but even that did not prove enough against the striking power of the Sultans, who chased their victory target down with two balls and five wickets remaining. As always in a short form T20 competition, momentum can prove an indomitable force and Multan currently boasts this in abundance. Whilst Lahore Qalandars do have bowlers of a world-class standard such as captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf who are capable of match-winning performances, they struggled against Roy’s power hitting last time out for Quetta and it would be no surprise if they were to be targeted again here by Mohammad Rizwan and his fellow Multan batters. With that in mind, back the in-form Sultans to make it seven PSL 7 wins in a row here at Gaddafi Stadium.
