THE TEAM NEWS
WEST INDIES
- West Indies kept their slim hopes of defending their T20 World Cup title alive by claiming a first win in this year’s tournament as they overcame Bangladesh in a thrilling contest last time out.
- With Bangladesh needing 143 runs to win, the Windies’ bowling unit stood firm as they managed to hold off the Tigers and claim a three-run victory while Nicholas Pooran provided a timely reminder of his quality with the bat having scored 40 from just 22 balls.
SRI LANKA
- Sri Lanka looked to be on course to cause an upset in their clash with England but they could not hold their nerve when it mattered and they slipped to a third loss in four matches which sealed their fate in the competition.
- Only pride is on the line for Sri Lanka now with a place in the semi-finals out of their reach but they will look to bow out on a high and will look to Wanindu Hasaranaga who played his part once again as he chimed in with another three wickets to take his tally for the tournament to 14.
THE PREDICTION
West Indies can still make the final four but they have plenty of
work to do if they are to achieve that. They also need other results to
go their way but it will be irrelevant if they fail to win this clash
with Sri Lanka. After winning just one of their four Super 12 matches,
Sri Lanka are unable to progress further but they will want to bow out
on a high. They performed very well in defeat to England and with no
pressure on them here, they can finish the tournament with a victory.
